Clinical interests

Lois Oakley specialises in foot pain treatment and foot care, to provide pain relief and improved mobility.

At Stourside Hospital podiatry is a patient - centred service, offering assessments and a wide range of treatments for the feet and lower limbs.

As well as traditional foot care for corns, callus, and fungal problems, the Stourside podiatry clinic offers:

Nail surgery - When in-growing nails are left untreated they can cause infection and severe pain. Using a local anaesthetic to numb the toe, the nail is partially or totally removed. Phenol is used to prevent regrowth.

Joints and movement - Bio mechanical health assessments, and gait analysis which assesses the way in which we move our body from one point to another.

Long term health conditions

Lois has extensive experience in treating foot problems in people with chronic health conditions such as diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, and other long term problems.

The rheumatology foot clinic is a podiatry speciality exclusive to Stourside, providing assessments and treatments for people with complications of wide-ranging rheumatic conditions. These include rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and psoriatic arthritis. As well as lupus, gout and soft tissue injury.

Other conditions treated

Soft tissue swellings such as bursitis, capsulitis and tendinitis are common in the foot and ankle joints.

• Heel pain

• Metatarsalgia

• Plantar fasciitis

And many more foot related pathologies.

We understand how important footwear is to maintain healthy feet. Are you wearing the right shoes for your foot shape and activities? Foot pain often arises from wearing the wrong choice of footwear style. Lois will assess your footwear and advise on what to wear.

Insoles and orthotics

Following assessment of the movement in the foot and leg, orthoses are prescribed to provide stability and pain relief. These work more effectively in appropriate footwear styles which will be discussed with you.

Full medical history will be taken so it will be helpful for the patient to bring a list of their current medication to clinic. The podiatrist will examine your feet including a vascular and neurological examination. This will determine the circulation and level of sensation in the foot. The style of footwear choice is important A and helps the podiatrist to identify any foot health issues you may be experiencing. Please bring a selection of your current shoes to clinic. After the assessment, a treatment plan will be agreed and discussed with you.
