Mr Ricardo Camprodon is a Consultant General Surgeon who specialises in Benign Upper GI Disorders.
Mr Camprodon is a Consultant General Surgeon with a specialist interest in Benign Upper GI Disorders. He specialises in gall bladder and biliary stone disease, in laparoscopic and open repair of abdominal wall hernias including incisional hernias. He also has an interest in pilonidal disease. In addition, he is a JAG Accredited Upper GI endoscopist and performs surgery for simple skin lesions as well as temporal artery biopsies under local anaesthesia.
Mr Camprodon graduated in medicine at the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1994. Following an MSc in Surgical Sciences in 1997 he started his basic surgical training in the UK in 1998. He was awarded a Ph.D. after completing a multicentre research project into Transplant Immunology at Sheffield University, Kings College Hospital and University of Barcelona, Spain. He undertook higher surgical training including oesophago-gastric resectional surgery at the Northern General, Royal Marsden, and Royal Surrey County Hospitals, and Bariatric and Antireflux Surgery at St George’s Hospital and as Post-CCT Fellow at Ashford and St Peters’ Hospital. Mr Camprodon has worked as a Consultant in Upper GI Benign, Laparoscopic and General Surgery since 2019 and was appointed at Russells Hall Hospital in May 2021. Since his appointment, Mr Camprodon has played a key role in developing the laparoscopic bile duct exploration service as a one-stage procedure for complex biliary stone disease at Russells Hall and is actively involved in developing and setting up the Black Country Bariatric Collaborative that will see him fulfilling another of his specialty interests in the very near future. Mr Camprodon has an interest in clinical and basic research and has published several peer-reviewed articles and been awarded two international prizes. His current research interests include perioperative care including operational systems and antireflux surgery. Mr Camprodon is a member for the National Hiatal Surgery Registry and a reviewer in the European Surgical Research Journal.
