Mr Haslam continually strives to improve his surgical outcomes and has embraced the enhanced recovery philosophy.  Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his family (3 sons) and plays the occasional round of golf. He has been a consultant for over 12 years now specialising in Knee surgery. His knee practice includes:

Soft Tissue

As a soft tissue knee surgeon he now performs approximately 80 ACLs per year and also treats knee dislocations and PCL injuries.  He has performed over 100 Unicompartmental Knee Replacements and over 1000 TKR’s. Mr Haslam an interest in Patello Femoral Instability and performs approximately 20 Medial Patello femoral ligament reconstructions per year.

He has developed an operation to remove Bakers cysts from the inside through key-hole surgery and so far over 20 cases have been completed with good results. He regularly attends national and international Knee and Trauma meetings in order to keep up to date with the latest developments and also regularly visits other surgeons both at home and abroad to gain knowledge and share experiences.

This year Mr Haslam intends to visit surgeons in Toulouse in April and New York in May. He has been faculty for 6 years teaching Knee examination nationally at the BOA and last year gave a lecture on Knee instability at the national BOSTAA meeting.

Mr Haslam is currently the Clinical Director of the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department. As a consultant orthopaedic surgeon he has taken on additional administrative responsibilities and his previous roles include being college tutor and theatre productivity lead, during this time he has led the introduction of the day case ACL service.

Mr Haslam attended the first training of Orthopaedic Leaders course at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He served as the Orthopaedic representative on the MAC committee at Park Hill Hospital. He was an educational supervisor for ST1 and ST2 trainees for 2 years and has completed the educational supervisor’s course. Following that he acted as clinical tutor for the Specialist Registrars in the region. In this role he actively participated in Training committee meetings and the annual ARCP. In addition to this he was involved in the introduction and training of the Nurse Practitioners within the department and has regular elective medical students.
