Miss Tahrina Salam is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic surgeon with a specialist interest in facial aesthetics, eyelid malposition and lacrimal surgery (watery eye). She specialises in reconstructive and cosmetic surgery of the eyelids and surrounding areas. This includes the eyelids (lesion removal, droopy eyelids, removal of eye bags/excess skin, and correction of eyelids that turn in or out) eyebrows (lesion removal and eyebrow lifts), forehead (treatment of unsightly furrows) and the nasolacrimal system (surgery for watery eyes).

In her NHS practice, she is the clinical lead in Oculoplastics and is the lead clinician in the management of the Periorbital skin cancer, Facial dystonia (blepharospasm and Hemifacial spam), Thyroid eye disease, Lacrimal and Lid malposition clinics. She also manages general ophthalmological conditions.

She has a specialist interest in the management of ocular cancers and performs a range of complex reconstructive surgeries after cancer removal.

She also offers a range of nonsurgical facial rejuvenation procedures such as dermal fillers. 

Academic background

Miss Salam qualified from the University of Bristol with bachelor degrees in Medicine, Surgery and Science in 2002. After completing a surgical rotation in the UK and New Zealand, she decided to specialise in Ophthalmology.

In 2005 she was competitively selected to complete her Ophthalmology training in London and in the world renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital. She completed 2 Oculoplastic fellowships In Moorfields, under the guidance of internationally recognised consultants who were integral in creating the Oculoplastics subspecialty.

She has over 20 publications in peer reviewed journals and continues to speak at conferences nationally and internationally.

She is a trustee of the Touch of Light Charity and regularly attends charity events abroad; teaching and performing cataract and oculoplastic surgery in deprived areas.
