Dr Smith is experienced in the management of joint, muscle and back pain, osteoporosis, gout, Rheumatoid arthritis, arthritis related to psoriasis (Psoriatic Arthritis) lupus, sports injuries and sports medicine.
He sits on the British Society of Rheumatology (BSR) Education committee. He is a member of GRAPPA (Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis) and is secretary of the Royal society of medicine sports and exercise medicine section.
He has been nominated a role model consultant in the British medical journal.
He is a lecturer for the British Medical Journal Masterclass, Primary Care Rheumatology Society, the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and the Royal osteoporosis society. He has written on upper limb disorders, osteoporosis, Rheumatology and musculoskeletal medicine.

Dr Smith has a Masters degree in Rheumatology. He has published original research into the effects of exercise and hormones on bone density and the association between hypermobility and sports injuries. His Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine from University of Bath covered all aspects of sports medicine including ergonomics, biomechanics, psychology of sport and the management of acute and chronic sports injuries.
Dr Smith is Junior Secretary on the Royal Society of Medicine Sports and Exercise Medicine Council. Dr Richard Smith is doctor for the World’s Strongest Man and has been doctor to BBC Superstars.
